World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Item upgrades are a key element of enhancing your character. Upgrades increase the damage of your item and enhancements. They also provide bonuses and enhancements. The armor can be upgraded by visiting the Armorer NPC, and spending the appropriate currency. In the majority of cases an item of armor will be upgraded to the next level once an upgrade is applied. Most types of armor can be upgraded, but certain items (such as the starter armour found in Great Sky Island) cannot. Most armor upgrades increase the strength or defense of an item by just a little. However, some upgrade components can give significant enhancements to strength or defense, especially when upgrading an epic item. In addition to enhancing the defense base of an item, some upgrades also give specific abilities that can be activated while wearing an armor. These abilities can be useful in combat, such as providing a boost to attack speed or blocking. Some upgrades also provide useful passive effects, like reducing the amount of damage taken when wearing armor, or giving you a the ability to deflect attacks. Based on the type of armor, upgrading an item could require several tries. For instance, if a player wanted to upgrade a Steelclash armor to Dragonscale, the first attempt will result in a brand new piece of Dragonscale with a base defense between 59 and 67. The second attempt will result in a brand new Dragonscale armor with an initial defense of 67-77, and so on. This does not stack with the Heightened Senses. Skull Cavern is where you will find Trinkets after completing the Mastery Cave. You can find them by defeating Monsters and in chests and crates. They are not in the Mines or Volcano Dungeon. Place the trinket into the Anvil whenever it is required to be upgraded. This will have an unintended effect on the trinket either increasing its duration or strengthening its effects. You can reforge the Trinket as many times as you like, but it will always be able to produce an effect that is new. You can also upgrade your Trinkets by placing them in a Magical Catalyst located at the Alchemy Station. This will cost you 6 energy and boost the trinket's power by just a little.
